Tuesdays are the best day to run an
ad in a newspaper.
That's when the newspaper will be
the thinnest and your ad is most likely to be seen and read.
Sundays are the worst days. Big city
Sunday newspapers sometimes (often) contain hundreds of pages. Sometimes I've
had ads appear in Sunday newspapers and it took me almost an hour to find my own
FULL page ad! And...
I Was
Looking For It!

increasing direct mail response!
Just include two (or more) reply

(Happy
Father's Day)
"I don't know the key to
success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."
Bill Cosby
Truer words were never spoken.
Neither here nor in Hoboken.
When I wrote what turned out to be
the most famous (and successful) personal ad ever published, a lot of people
asked me if the ad didn't offend a lot of women. I always answer, "Yes, it
did. It offended a lot of fat, ugly women with toxin personalities. Women I did
NOT want to answer the ad." I…
"I Concentrated On Selling The
Foxes...
And... Did NOT Worry About Offending
The Dogs!"

If you are advertising for leads, only allow the people
you are going after to respond by phone.
Decades ago, Claude Hopkins was
introducing a new product in New York and wanted to give away free samples so
people could see how good the product was.
He ran ads in newspapers with a
combined circulation of millions.
One-third of those ads said you
could get the free sample product by sending your name and address to the
company selling the product.
Another one-third of the ads said
you could get the free sample product by calling and giving the person who
answers the phone your name and address.
The remaining third of the ads said
you could write or call.
The "Phone Only" Option Outpulled
The Other Two Options By A Factor
Of Three To One!
I've retested that
concept in recent years and the numbers are exactly the same. In other words,
"phone only" still produce

Give your advertising your best shot
on your very first test.
Many people don't do that and it
costs them dearly.
They send out a cheap, bulk-rate
mailing and, when they get mediocre results, they wonder if they would have done
better by mailing First-Class. Or by…
Give it your BEST shot right off the
bat and then, if you've got a loser, drop the project and go on to something
else.

One of the best things I firmly believe is, if you are at
Point A and you want to get to Point B... that (no matter what)
before you get to Point B... you are definitely going to make 'x'
number of mistakes. So my motto is...
Let's Hurry…

A good way to find a profitable market is to visit a
newsstand that sells magazines.
Magazines sold from newsstands (as
opposed to those people subscribe to them) are true indicators of what people
are interested enough to spend money for... right now!
The more of a magazine circulation
that is "newsstand sold", the better the ads in those publications will pull.

Send your sales letter via
First-Class mail.
Much bulk-rate mail is not delivered
(even if it is properly addressed) by the Post Office. Much of it (bulk-rate),
is simply thrown away by the Post Office. And, if the Post Office doesn't throw
it away, surveys indicate…
